Weekend events roundup August 14, 2026

By David Cardenas - August 14, 2026

Hello, neighbors! As summer winds down and the kids head back into their school routines, it's the perfect time to slow down and reconnect with the community right here in Chula Vista. Whether you're looking for something free to do with the little ones, a bilingual-friendly outing the whole family can enjoy, or just an excuse to get outside before fall settles in, we've rounded up a few of South Bay's most reliable local favorites happening between now and September 10th. As always, we recommend double-checking exact times on each organizer's page before you head out, since schedules can shift.

🥬 Chula Vista Certified Farmers' Market

When: Thursdays, September 3 & September 10, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Where: Third Avenue, between Davidson Street and Park Way, Downtown Chula Vista

This is one of our all-time favorite weekly traditions in Downtown Chula Vista. Local growers, bakers, and small food vendors line historic Third Avenue with fresh produce, flowers, and ready-to-eat treats. It's a wonderfully walkable, family-friendly evening out, and a great way to support small local businesses while you're at it. Bring a reusable bag and your appetite!

📚 Family Storytime at the Chula Vista Public Library

When: Weekly, check branch calendar for exact days/times
Where: Civic Center Branch, 365 F Street, Chula Vista

Our Chula Vista Public Library branches are a genuine community treasure, and their storytime programs remain a go-to for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. These free sessions typically mix songs, books, and movement, and many branches offer bilingual English/Spanish storytimes throughout the month — a lovely touch for our bicultural South Bay community. Call ahead or check the library's online events calendar to confirm the day and time before you go.

🐢 Weekend Nature Programs at the Living Coast Discovery Center

When: Saturdays & Sundays
Where: 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive, Chula Vista Bayfront

Tucked right on the Chula Vista Bayfront, the Living Coast Discovery Center is one of South Bay's hidden gems. Weekends typically bring keeper talks, animal feedings, and up-close encounters with native San Diego Bay wildlife — sharks, sea turtles, birds of prey, and more. It's an easy, educational outing for families, and the bayfront trail views alone are worth the trip. Great for all ages, and a nice shady/waterfront break from the late-summer heat.

🌳 Rohr Park & Sweetwater Regional Park

When: Daily, dawn to dusk
Where: 4548 Sweetwater Road, Bonita/Chula Vista border

If you just want an open-air weekend hang, Rohr Park remains one of the most popular gathering spots in the area — think picnic tables, a disc golf course, a duck pond, walking paths, and shaded picnic shelters. It's a wonderful, low-key option for a family reunion, a birthday celebration, or simply an evening walk together as the weather starts to cool off heading into September.

We know this list is shorter than usual this week — we'd rather share only the events we can genuinely vouch for than pad the roundup with anything unconfirmed. If you know of a festival, church fundraiser, school event, or pop-up happening in Chula Vista or South Bay that our neighbors should know about, send it our way! We're always looking to spotlight what makes this community special.

As we head into the unofficial end of summer, we hope you and your family get a chance to slow down, get outside, and enjoy everything our corner of San Diego County has to offer. From the farmers market on Third Avenue to a quiet afternoon at the bayfront, Chula Vista really does have something for everyone.

Enjoying these local roundups? We'd love it if you followed the Cardenas & Company Google Business Profile for more weekly updates on what's happening around Chula Vista and the South Bay — and if you've worked with us before, a quick review there means the world to our small, local team. Thanks for reading, and see you around the neighborhood!
